Where do I practice Horticulture Therapy?
I live and work in Southern Oregon, in a beautiful town named Ashland.
Southern Oregon is a great area to participate in a Horticulture
Therapy program. We have a nice long spring-into-summer growing
season, lots of parks, and the forest right at our back door.
My mother always planted her peas in February. Some seasons were
wet and she'd have to replant, but most years those early peas made
it through. She was always so proud when she had the first fresh
peas in the valley.
Growing a garden is not only for food, but also for the spirit.
Not all of us plant peas in February, some of us plant primroses
or pansies. Those of us who don't plant can garden walk and enjoy
our neighbors gardens.

Outings to parks and the forests can be year round events in Southern
Oregon. Buds, leaves, flowers, twigs and lichen make great photographic
and pressing materials.
